Redesign and user experience for accessing complex investment data

The Multilateral Investment Fund (MIF), a member of the IDB Group, serves as an innovation laboratory for development in Latin America and the Caribbean. In collaboration with Estudio Yellow, we took on the challenge of redesigning its digital platform with a central goal: simplifying access to a vast and complex content structure to more clearly communicate the Fund’s impact.

The Challenge: Synthesizing Complexity

The project required a deep restructuring of the site’s navigation to ensure the audience could immediately grasp the MIF’s scope. We focused on transforming a dense data repository into an agile platform, where visual hierarchy helped highlight the institution’s strategic objectives.

To improve the search experience, we designed a navigation system based on smart filters that allows users to explore projects and resources with precision. Information was organized across multiple dimensions:

  • Projects: Locatable by country, thematic area, and financing type.
  • Publications and News: Filterable by author, date, and strategic pillars.

This new navigation proposal not only optimized information findability but also made the knowledge generated by the Fund much more accessible and functional for researchers, partners, and the community at large.

Projects and Resources: Visualizing Impact

A core component of this restructuring was the implementation of an interactive investment map. We designed an interface that allows for the immediate visualization of the Fund’s territorial reach: by interacting with each country, the system displays critical data such as the number of active projects and the volume of invested capital. This data visualization tool transforms complex figures into clear geographic information, enabling stakeholders to gauge the MIF’s actual presence and impact throughout the region.
